Tsavo

Home to super tuskers, Tsavo is Kenya's oldest and largest national park known for its large herds of elephants and beautiful wide open landscapes.

Tsavo East and West

Tsavo East and West is the largest of our national parks and the oldest. It covers an area of around 20,000 sq km, a land of incredible biodiversity and home to the famous lions and super tuskers. A super tusker is a bull elephant with tusks that each weigh over 100 pounds (45 kilograms) and are so long that they often touch the ground. Tsavo has an elevation of 1200 m above sea level and is usually a dry arid area. It has many water holes spread across its vast expanse and is known to hold more than 15,000 elephant.

Game drives here can be long so picnic breakfasts and/or lunches are recommended. One can happen upon large herd of buffalo sometimes 1,000 strong and other plains game. Picnics can be had on the banks of the Galana river or among doum palms along quiet tributes with crystal clear waters, or at the famous Mzima springs.

The endangered Hirola antelope has made a come-back from near extinction and certain areas now boast actual herds of these animals. If you’re a bird lover then an incredible 500 plus species can be seen and in a number of camps these birds can actually feed out of one’s hand. From a scenic point of view, the Yatta Plateau, a 300-kilometer-long plateau, the longest in the world and Roaring Rocks are just some of the areas one can visit.

Tsavo is only a 3-hour drive or 30-minute flight from the Kenyan coast,or a 5-hour drive or one hour flight from Nairobi.
